Many older Toronto homes still rely on outdated electrical systems that were never designed for today’s heavy electrical loads. Over time, insulation cracks, connections loosen, and circuits become unsafe — increasing the risk of electrical shock, power loss, or even fire. Modern rewiring ensures your home meets current Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) standards, satisfies insurance and real estate requirements, and supports all your modern appliances safely and efficiently.
Fire Prevention: Old or damaged wiring can overheat and cause electrical fires behind walls.
Insurance & Mortgage Compliance: Most insurance companies require an ESA inspection or certification before renewing coverage.
Power for Modern Living: Older 60A or 100A systems can’t handle today’s load from appliances, EV chargers, and HVAC units.
Home Resale Value: Updated wiring improves your home’s value and attracts more buyers.
Airbnb / Rental Approval: City inspectors now demand proof of safe electrical systems for rental licenses.
Eliminate Flickering or Tripped Breakers: Rewiring stabilizes circuits and prevents voltage drops.
Peace of Mind: Know your home is safe, efficient, and ready for future upgrades.
Knob and tube wiring was common in homes built before the 1950s, but it no longer meets today’s electrical safety standards. Over time, the insulation around these wires becomes brittle, cracks, and exposes live conductors — creating a high risk of electrical shock and fire. The system also lacks a grounding wire, meaning appliances and outlets aren’t safely protected from faults or surges.
Many insurance companies refuse to cover homes that still use knob and tube wiring until it’s inspected or replaced by an ESA-licensed electrician. In addition, most cities, including Toronto, require electrical upgrades for older homes before resale or rental registration (including Airbnb).
If your home has aluminum wiring, we can perform a safety inspection, repair, and ESA certification required by most insurance companies and municipalities.
Our licensed electricians will:
Inspect every connection and outlet for heat or oxidation
Use AlumiConn® or COPALUM® connectors for code-approved repairs
Submit all work under ESA permit for official Electrical Safety Authority Certificate
This certificate satisfies insurance company requirements and city regulations for short-term rentals such as Airbnb and VRBO.
Yes — all rewiring work in Ontario requires an ESA permit. APS Electric handles the permit and final inspection so your home stays fully compliant.
Most average-size homes (1,200–2,000 sq ft) take 3–7 days, depending on access and wall finishes. We plan each phase to minimize disruption.
We minimize drywall cuts and often fish new wires through existing spaces. Small patching may be needed around outlets or switches
Yes. Every project is completed under ESA permit and you’ll receive an official Certificate of Inspection — important for insurance and resale.
Absolutely. We perform aluminum wiring safety checks, upgrade terminations with AlumiConn® connectors, and submit for ESA certification.
Many municipalities now require proof of safe wiring before granting a short-term rental license. We provide full inspection and documentation.
Cost depends on home size and accessibility. On average, $8 000 – $15 000 for full rewiring with panel upgrade and ESA approval. Free quotes available.
Yes — we protect floors, remove debris daily, and leave walls patch-ready.

Harman M2022-03-24Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an emergency in our house and the power was not working in a hallway, master bathroom and 1 outlet. I did some preliminary troubleshooting and checked my electrical panel for any blown circuits or switches that were off....nothing. I checked all of my GFI outlets and ran tests -- still nothing. I called a couple of electricians and they advised they would call me back - waited 1 day no call back. I googled electricians near me and came across APS -- I called them - I spoke with the owner and he advised he could have someone onsite the next day - he texted to confirm. They arrived onsite, assessed the situation and resolved the issue. They were thorough and explained the problem and solution. We have power!! Thanks for the prompt response and quick turn around.
